Window in the World

Residency 2024

  • The project was linked to the  ‘Window in the World’ a national project  with South Lanarkshire, Glasgow City and Orkney. Dumfries and Galloway focused on the theme of Journeys for their Windows project.
  • The artists involved worked alongside Education Cultural Co-ordinators to stimulate a menu of arts activities including music, dance, drama, creative writing, photography, craft and visual arts based around the theme of Journeys to school.
  • The project was be based around Stranraer Academy and three of its Primary schools: Drummore, Park and Glenluce. This area of the region was selected as it is geographically remote, and frequently receives less arts input than more centrally located schools.
  • The project culminated with an exhibition of work at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow followed by a showing at Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries and Stranraer Library.

Jo worked with pupils to create chalk maps of their journeys to school on the school playground. Pupils then make 3D fantasy maps of their journeys. The fantasy maps were photographed and made into badges, earrings and other items that the pupils could wear or carry with them.
